Back to Work

Today Montie and Courtney both went to work. Montie went in to the ship yard for the first time today for a few hours. He had a chance to catch up with the staff and get a look at the boat. He worked a half day and then left to drive with the Chairman to take Courtney to Tianan.

Montie, Courtney, James (the chairman) and his daughter Maggie left this afternoon to head up to Tianan which is about 30 minutes north of Kaohsiung. The chairman’s wife owns a private school and Courtney is going to work at the school a few days each week teaching English. She will stay with the chairman’s family. I am eager to hear about her adventures!

Onward!

Today we traveled from Taipei to Kaohsiung where we will spend the rest of our trip. We took the train which is THE WAY to travel. Once we knew we were on the right platform with the right tickets going in the right direction we could really relax.

While waiting on the platform a man came up to us, introduced himself and proceeded to pick up both Olivia and Cassandra and have his wife snap pictures. After pictures were over, he took out some candy and gave some to the girls. He was very nice, but can you imagine someone doing that in the US? The poor guy would have been arrested!

The girls and “Sammy”

We arrived in Kaohsiung about 4:00pm to much better weather than we’d left behind in Taipei. It was still hot and humid, but no rain. We took a taxi to our hotel in downtown Kaohsiung. It is beautiful! Martyn who does some work for Montie had his wife contact a travel agent friend and they negotiated a great room at a great price. We took a quick tour of the hotel and came to our room to nap.

Later we met up with Martyn, his wife Jojo and their beautiful daugther Tatjana for dinner. Funnily enough, we went to a placed called Smoky Joe’s. It was decorated in a “Texan” theme and had a huge variety of foods. Above our table was a huge picture of a girl barrel racing!

Tomorrow we’ll explore Kaohsiung.
